# Overlay group

The **overlay group** is where you manage content that appears on top of the page. These are not part of the main header or footer: they are popups or panels that show over the store (for example a newsletter signup popup that appears after a few seconds or when the visitor scrolls). Because this content is separate from the rest of the layout, the theme keeps it in one group. You set it up once and it can show on all pages according to the rules you choose.

### What is the "Overlay group"?

In the theme, overlays are treated as one **group**: the popups and panels that appear on top of the page. You don't have several separate overlay areas to manage; you have one group that can contain one or more overlay sections.

When you open **Customize** and go to **Sections**, you may see overlay sections (such as **Newsletter popup**) listed there. Editing them lets you change the text, image, colors, and when the popup appears. Those changes apply wherever the overlay is set to show.

### How to change the overlays

1. Go to **Online Store > Themes > Customize**.
2. In the left panel, open **Sections** and look for overlay sections (e.g. **Newsletter popup**).
3. Select the section and change its settings and blocks (heading, text, image, when it appears, how often, etc.).
4. Preview your store, then click **Save**.

### Tips

* Use the newsletter popup to grow your email list; set when it appears (delay or scroll) and how often (e.g. once per visit or once per week) so it doesn't feel intrusive.
* Overlays appear on top of the page; keep the message short and the close button easy to find.
* Any change you make in an overlay section applies everywhere that overlay is set to show; you don't need to edit each page.
