# Add a template

Shopify allows you to create and assign **templates** to different types of pages in your store, such as **products, collections, blogs, blog posts, and pages**. Templates let you design unique layouts or add custom features for specific items without affecting your entire store.

### Step 1: Create a New Template

1. In your Shopify admin, go to **Online Store** → **Themes**.
2. Find your current theme and click **Customize**.
3. At the top of the editor, open the **template selector** dropdown.
4. ![](https://2498163780-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F2LxG3rPCoA6sZo7ovFkR%2Fuploads%2FX8nM7hx51E99TcnXE12d%2FCapture%20d'%C3%A9cran%202026-02-19%20183045.png?alt=media\&token=c9137e10-0d3b-4e59-9dae-fd0166d5246a)
5. Choose the **resource type** for your template:
   * Products
   * Collections
   * Pages
   * Blogs
   * Blog posts
6. Click **Create template**.
7.

10. Click **Create template**.

### Step 2: Customize the Template

### Step 4: Preview

1. Open the product, collection, or page on your storefront.
2. You should now see the layout and design defined in your custom template.

***

### Tips

* Use templates to **differentiate layouts** — for example:
  * Highlight featured collections with a custom design.
  * Add unique sections to a specific product (e.g., size guide, badges, or promo banners).
  * Create a different look for blog posts vs. static pages.
* Keep templates **organized and clearly named** (e.g., `product-sale`, `page-about`, `blog-featured`).
* You can create **multiple templates per resource type** and assign them to different items as needed.

✅ Done! You’ve successfully created and assigned a **custom template** in Shopify.
