# Cart

Set how your cart looks and what it shows. A clear cart helps shoppers review items, understand offers, and check out with confidence.

#### How to set it up

* Go to **Online Store** > **Themes** > **Customize**.
* Open **Theme settings** > **Cart**.
* Make your changes, preview live, then click **Save**.

### Settings

* **Type**: Choose how the cart opens (Drawer, Page, Popup notification). Pick what fits your store flow.
* **Vendor**: Show the product brand in the cart. Useful when brand matters to customers.
* **Cart note**: Let customers add a note to their order. Helpful for delivery requests or gift messages.

#### Cart drawer

* **Heading size**: Set the title size in the cart drawer. Keeps hierarchy clear.
* **Redirect to cart button**: Adds a button to go to the full cart page. Good for longer orders.
* [**Color scheme**](/docs/theme-settings/colors.md#schemes): Choose the cart drawer color set. Keep contrast high for readability.
* **Featured collection**: Show a collection when the cart drawer is empty. Great for promoting products.
* **Show collection when cart isn't empty**: Also show the collection when items are already in the cart. Use if you want ongoing upsells.

#### Free shipping

* **Show free shipping message**: Turn on a progress message toward free shipping. Increases average order value.
* **Free shipping message**: Edit the message. Use \[amount] to show how much is left.
* **Free shipping threshold**: Set the amount needed to qualify. Match your shipping policy.
* **Success message**: Edit the success text once the threshold is reached.

#### Promotional message

* **Show promotional message**: Turn on a promo text block in the cart drawer. Use for codes or offers.
* **Promotional message**: Set the promo text. Keep it short and clear.

#### Empty paragraph

* **Show empty paragraph**: Turn on a custom paragraph for empty carts. Use for guidance or links.
* **Empty paragraph**: Edit the content shown when the cart is empty.

### Nested line items

The cart automatically supports nested line items from Shopify apps and bundles:

* **Add-ons** (warranties, upsells, product protection): When an app attaches child items to a parent product, they appear visually nested under their parent. Quantity controls are shown or hidden based on the app's instructions. Removing a parent automatically removes its children.
* **Bundles**: Products created with the Shopify Bundles app display their components as read-only rows beneath the parent item — no separate quantity controls or pricing, just the component names.

This works automatically in both the cart page and the cart drawer. No configuration is needed.

### **Tips**

* Keep messages short and specific. Use the free shipping bar to nudge higher baskets.
* Make sure Color scheme and Heading size match your overall theme.
* If you use Featured collection, pick relevant, in-stock products.
