# Theme Update

Keeping your theme up to date ensures you have access to the latest features, improvements, and bug fixes. All updates are are sent by email, and can be added to your theme library at no extra cost once you’ve purchased a valid license.

### How to Update Your Theme

Any custom code changes you’ve made will not carry over automatically to the updated version.

1. **Back Up Your Current Theme**
   * In your Shopify admin, go to **Online Store > Themes**.
   * Find your current theme and click the **… (Actions)** menu.
   * Select **Duplicate** to create a backup copy.
2. **Add the Updated Version**
   * If a new version is available, a notification will appear in your Shopify admin.
   * Click **Add to theme library** to install the updated copy.
   * You can also select **View release notes** to learn about the improvements.
3. **Review and Test**
   * Open the updated theme in preview mode.
   * Check important pages such as the homepage, product pages, and collections.
   * If your old theme had customizations, you’ll need to reapply them manually in the updated version.
4. **Publish the Updated Theme**
   * Once you’re satisfied with the setup and testing, go to **Online Store > Themes**.
   * Click **Actions > Publish** to make the updated theme live.

### Notes on Customizations

* Settings and configurations made through the Theme Editor (like layouts, section order, or color choices) will transfer to the new version.
* Custom code modifications (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, or Liquid) will not transfer automatically. You’ll need to copy these changes into the new theme manually.
* Our support does not cover transferring customizations or migrating third-party app integrations.
